Sponsored by AMarriage Entertainment, LLC ; Starbucks; University of Penn; “Men of Color”; Solving Poverty; Beckett Concepts, WeC.A.R.E wants to make a difference.
WeC.A.R.E and Solving Poverty realizes Knowledge is Power. A great start to a great education is that key to knowledge and power. WeC.A.R.E starts with you, it starts with us. We believe that Education is the key to Solving Poverty, Combating Violence and Saving our Future. Without this key, there are no winners.
AMarriage Entertainment and WeC.A.R.E would like to thank Starbucks; University of Penn; Men of Color; Gulf Coast Civic Works Project (GCCWP); Solving Poverty; Comcast for their support; corporate donations and sponsorships. We would also like to thank the dedicated customers who joined us in donating the much needed school supplies to many of the students of Samuel Daroff Elementary/Middle School here in Philadelphia for the 2007/2008 school season. Without your heartfelt kindness, and the help of Starbucks allowing us to utilize their various locations to place drop-boxes, this could not have been possible.
We were looking for basic materials to start the school year off right for many who are otherwise unable to afford to do so coming from single parent households. To our surprise, many of you came through giving so much from your hearts. For this, we are exceptionally grateful. AMarriage Entertainment, LLC & WeC.A.R.E would like to continue this donation drive throughout the remainder of the school year with the help of various other corporations; organizations sponsorships. This along with the public’s continuous support, we will continue to assist many under-privileged and at risk students with supplies for their upcoming school projects for study and much needed credits that otherwise would not and could not be affordable to them.
WeC.A.R.E, is a program that was originally developed to help under-privileged and at risk children in the Philadelphia School District. Many schools in the Philadelphia District as we know are under-staffed and teachers are overwhelmed by a larger than normal class sizes. Because of this, many of these students needs go unrecognized. Many parents today are barely surviving off of a single-parent paycheck, having to choose whether to put food on the table; pay the electric bill or buy their children much needed educational supplies. Today, many families are living below the poverty level and are unable to afford the much needed supplies for their children to be able to learn in order for them to succeed. Not having the proper supplies disrupts a child’s ability to properly function during class, even less likely to concentrate in order to achieve. We-C.A.R.E is a donation drive that is asking the public and other corporate sponsors to please continue helping us by donating many of the basic supplies that are needed yet sometimes overlooked, such as pencils, pens, calculators, markers, notebooks, etc throughout the remainder of this school-year.
Why WeC.A.R.E? Because 18% of all U.S. Children are currently living in poverty as this number continues to grow daily and also promotes a higher drop out rate. There are approximately 37 million Americans living in poverty today. There are approximately 727,000 homeless in America on any given night.
Why WeC.A.R.E? Because locally Philadelphia and Camden still have some of the nation’s highest poverty rates. Last year, 25.1% of Philadelphians lived in poverty. Philadelphia is the 9th worst among cities with populations of 250,000 or more. Philadelphia continues to have the highest poverty rate among the nation’s 10 largest cities.
How WeC.A.R.E works: AMarriage Entertainment, LLC has launched a fundraiser through Café Press, “Solving Poverty” campaign. For every item purchased, AMarriage Entertainment, LLC will donate $1.00 of every item sold through this fundraiser to the Philadelphia School System as well as some of our local Women Children's Shelters. Teachers, Counselors from designated Philadelphia schools are being asked to make a list of supplies they will need for their class or classes, or to anonymously identify a student or students in need, or identify needs for specific class projects. WeC.A.R.E will place this list along with the name and location of each designated school above the drop-box in selected Starbucks locations where the customer(s) will make their donations (other drop-box locations will be named soon).
After approximately two (2) weeks at each designated location, the supplies will be picked up and split to be delivered to each designated school & shelter. A replacement drop-box will replace the donated box at each designated drop-box location for continuous donations.
With your help, this continued donation drive effort will continue through April, 2008 and re-establish itself again in August, 2008.
